How do I describe this past weekend? Bonkers! Hope-filled! Thoroughly exhausting!
Meet Wonder Boy
On Friday, I was able to catch a young stray dog in Brooklyn who I later learned had been spotted on the streets since the end of February. I named him Wonder for everything heās survived after likely being dumped, all while keeping his love of dogs, toys, and people intact. (He is ALSO intact and will be getting neutered next week per doctorās orders. Sorry, buddy.)
As all shelters and rescues are at capacity in New York, Iāve been running point on his care since then. My dog Max is reactive to other dogs, so I needed a foster for Wonder ASAP.
And the ONLY way I was able to do that was through my amazing community of friends and neighbors, who amplified my call for help in finding a foster all weekend and donated enough to cover his ENTIRE $814 ER vet bill AND Maxās overnight boarding when I needed to take Wonder after a foster fell through.
I had friends contact dog rescues on my behalf, complete strangers reach out to take him in, and even have someone willing to cover his neutering next week.
In short: Community is everything.
Seeking a foster for Wonder!
Wonder is with a great foster duo thru Friday afternoon, so Iām seeking fosters within a few neighborhoods of Park Slope, Brooklyn over the next two weeks so he can continue to decompress and stay close to the vet once heās neutered.
While he is the SWEETEST boy who loves to play and snuggle with you, he also has separation anxiety and an enlarged prostate (heāll be so embarrassed I told you that), so needs an experienced foster who works from home and can take him outside every 90 minutes to 2 hours during the day to avoid accidents in the house. Since Iām in the neighborhood, Iāll be available to support fosters with walks and taking him to/from vet appointments.
Know someone who could be a great fit? Have them contact me at tryanywayproductions@gmail.com.
Want to support Wonderās care?
Donors made a HUGE difference covering Wonderās ER vet bills this weekend! Iām covering all Wonderās vet and foster costs (food, transport, supplies). Feel free to Venmo me at @ TheGynoKid to contribute.
All additional funds raised will be donated to local rescues. Thank you!
And the award goes toā¦
This weekend, I was awarded Creator of the Year by the Young-Howze Theater Journal, an awesome theater review organization that is deeply passionate about independent theater.
Creator of the Year is a special award for creatives who go beyond their work onstage to teach and support their communities, and I was selected for my educational expansion of The GynoKid live show into an educational talkback series on reproductive health.
Since I was getting Wonder settled in with his fosters, I wasnāt able to attend the ceremony on Zoom. Imagine my surprise when I receive a message from them to watch the final 20 minutes of the ceremony on YouTube.
After an exhausting weekend, I promptly burst into tears when I heard their kind words about me, The GynoKid, and our impact on reproductive health education. Shoutout to my producers Lizzy Bryce, Jack Hobbs, and Crystal Collins for being the dream team behind the show.
Watch here.
With love and gratitude,
Claire
