Thank you 💜
My friends, the response from our Empire Waist community to get our film into more theaters across the US has been nothing short of staggering—and so deeply moving for our cast & crew.
This past week and weekend, we’ve had families, teachers, social workers, and more stopping by their local theaters or contacting them by email to let them know just how much they want to see the film in their community.
My own community here in Brooklyn has been contacting our two local theaters (Nitehawk Prospect Park and Cobble Hill Cinemas) to make sure the film will play for the kids, teens & adults who need to see it — and be able to use our Confidence Curriculum to process their own body image and self-confidence journeys.
Shoutout to our king of the dad jokes, Rainn Wilson, for sharing why this film matters on our Instagram 💜
FREE COLORING PAGE 🎨
As a thank you, please enjoy this free coloring page featuring our Empire Waist fashion squad! Created by artist Vicky Leta, the coloring page will be distributed by theaters across the US and Canada who will be playing our film on September 27th 💜
Color is confidence in the Empire Waist world — and seeing diverse bodies represented both on-screen and in other artforms makes such a difference.
Feel free to share far and wide!
For some bonus fun, we’re inviting folks to post their completed coloring masterpieces on Instagram! Tag us (@empirewaistfilm) and include the hashtag #PlayEmpireWaist to be eligible to win two free tickets for opening weekend.
Hometown Screening at The Playhouse 🍿
I moved home to New Canaan, CT in 2019 to make the movie I needed to see as a kid. And I screened that movie in my hometown on Thursday night 🥹😭💜💖
Reviews from the screening:
“I absolutely loved this movie! It tackles important themes like body positivity, self-acceptance, and inclusion. But above all, it’s incredibly well-written, entertaining, and filled with joy. I laughed, my movie date Mike D. cried, and the audience gave it a standing ovation.” - Sheri West, LiveGirl
“It’s truly a must-see movie for all ages! Full of so many important issues; body image, self-love/acceptance, inclusion, and most importantly learning that our superpower is ourselves… [My daughter] and I laughed and cried our way through it.”
“I was blown away, and my daughter LOVED it. So incredibly, thoughtfully done. This film should be required viewing!!”
“A+++ for Empire Waist. Funny, deeply meaningful and feel good. How often do we see that trifecta?”
Thank you to Cinema Lab and The Playhouse in New Canaan for having me and to Sheri West (Founder & CEO of LiveGirl) for being such a phenom moderator for the Q&A!
FACT: My neighbor Jeanne wore her best pink to match Kayla in the poster 🥹😭💖
FACT: My plus one was my high school principal Tony Pavia who fought to make sure that the arts had the same level of funding as athletics, which is why I was able to begin directing at 14. And who taught me how to be an empathetic leader and educator 💜💖
FACT: Got to pass out the coloring page we’ll be distributing at theaters across the country and it was a hit! 😍💖
